Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 14, 2025 · Extension: Best Color Picker
Short version: We collect zero personal data. Everything the extension does happens entirely on your device. No data is sent anywhere.
1. Overview
Best Color Picker ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension developed for designers and developers to pick, convert, analyze, and export colors. This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension handles your information.
The core principle is simple: we do not collect, store, transmit, or monetize any personal information, browsing data, or usage data. The Extension operates entirely within your browser with no backend server.
2. Information We Collect
We collect no personal information.
Specifically, we do NOT collect:
- ✕Personal identification (name, email, address, phone number)
- ✕Browsing history or visited URLs
- ✕Page content or user-entered form data
- ✕Cookies or tracking identifiers
- ✕Device fingerprints or IP addresses
- ✕Usage analytics or behavioral data
- ✕Color values you pick or create
- ✕Any data stored locally on your device
The Extension does store your color history and settings locally in Chrome's built-in storage (see Section 4). This data never leaves your device.
3. Permissions Explained
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, each with a specific and limited purpose:
Allows the Extension to interact with the currently active browser tab only when you explicitly click the 'Page' or 'Extract' button. Used solely to read CSS color values from the active page for the Page Color Extractor feature. The Extension does not read page content, user input, or any other data.
Required to execute the content script that reads computed CSS color properties (color, background-color, border-color, fill) from DOM elements on the active tab. Only color-related CSS is read. No page content, passwords, form values, or personal data is accessed.
Used to save your color history (up to 24 colors) and preferences (such as default copy format) locally using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
Allows the Extension to copy color values, CSS strings, and export code to your clipboard when you click a copy button. This only writes to the clipboard; it never reads from it.
Required for the content script to be available on any website you choose to use the Page Color Extractor on. The script only runs when you trigger it. No automatic data collection occurs.
4. Local Data Storage
The Extension uses Chrome's chrome.storage.local API to save:
- ✦Your recent color history (up to 24 HEX color values)
- ✦Your preferred copy format (HEX, RGB, HSL, etc.)
- ✦Any user preferences set in the Settings panel
This data is stored entirely within your browser on your local device. It is accessible only by the Extension. It is not synced via Chrome Sync, not uploaded to any server, and not accessible to any third party.
You can clear all locally stored data at any time by clicking "Clear" in the History panel, or by removing the Extension from Chrome, which erases all associated storage.
5. Third-Party Services
The Extension's popup interface loads the Inter and Space Mono typefaces from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com) via a CSS link tag. This is a standard web font request. Google's privacy policy governs this request. The fonts are used purely for typography within the popup UI.
No other third-party services, analytics platforms, crash reporters, or external APIs are used by the Extension.
We do not use: Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Sentry, Firebase, or any similar services.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, rent, or share any user data with any third party — because we have no user data to share.
The Extension has no backend server, no account system, no telemetry, and no analytics. Your color picks, your history, and your preferences are yours alone.
7. Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. As we collect no personal data from any user, we are compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations by design.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Any changes will be posted here and will take effect immediately upon posting.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
